How and when is a cancellation fee applied ?
「Cancellation fees apply depending on the date of your cancellation prior to the reserved date of check-in. ※We ask for your understanding that for credit card cancelations and changes of reservation contents, a handling fee may apply.
May I adjust the number of guests staying in my machiya ?
If you wish to change the number of guests, please contact us by 3 days before your check in date. Not only does each house have a set capacity, but the nightly rate will differ according to the number of guests. (Please note that the total number of guests staying on any night must not exceed the house's capacity)
Is it possible for minors to stay in machiya？
We do not allow unaccompanied minors (20 years or younger) to stay in Iori machiya. Adult supervision is required for all student groups.
How do I check-in ?
The meeting place for checking in is either at Iori office or at Machiya directly. We will provide the map and address when we confirm the reservation.
Check in time is between 16:00 and 18:00, the latest.
May I cook in my machiya ?
Partly for fire safety reasons, and partly because Iori machiya are equipped with only basic cooking facilities, guests are asked to refrain from cooking more than simple breakfasts in our houses. Our staff will be happy to book a table for you at the best local restaurants, or order in dinner from a choice of Kyoto's top kaiseki restaurants, allowing you to enjoy the finest local cuisine served on lacquer trays in the comfort of your own room.
Are there convenience stores nearby？
There are 24 hours convenience stores within a 5 minutes walk of each of the Iori machiya
Do the machiya have refrigerators？
Each Iori machiya has a refrigerator for guests to use. We will dispose of any foodstuffs left in the refrigerator after check out.
What personal effects should I bring for my machiya stay ?
For a comfortable stay, each Machiya is outfitted with furniture and electrical appliances (we do not supply a television), as well as bedding, linens and towels. We ask, however, that guests bring nightwear and personal bathroom effects with you. Please refer to the machiya information pages for amenities information.
Do the machiya have baths？
All the Iori machiyas have a large bath made of either Japanese cypress, cedar, or stone.
What type of sieeping arrangements should I expect in my machiya ?
Most of the machiya bedrooms are Japanese-style, with plush futon mattresses spread on tatami flooring. Only the Sujiya-cho machiya has 2 western style beds. Down quilts are provided for sleeping comfortably in winter.
Are pets allowed in the houses？
We apologize for any inconvenience, but pets are not allowed in Iori machiya.
May I smoke in the house？
As our machiya are historic wooden buildings decorated with antiques, for preservation and fire safety reasons, Iori maintains a strict non-smoking policy on the premises of the machiya.
How quiet are the machiya？
Machiya are built on limited space with houses standing side by side, so one's neighbors are never far away. However, Iori has made a point to choose machiya in quieter locations, where our guests can expect an appropriate level of respect and consideration of their privacy and quiet.
How do I check out ?
Check-out time is by 11:00am, and procedures will be explained to guests at the time of check-in.
