Iori Weekly Machiya Terms of Agreement

  1. Machiya cannot operate as hotels or inns under the current fire laws in Japan. Therefore even for short-term stays, Iori requests guests sign a rental agreement to use the machiya houses, hereafter referred to as "Weekly Machiya."
  2. The list on the first page of the contract show an inventory of the Weekly Machiya, including furnishings, bedding, electric appliances, antiques, and art, etc. Below the inventory is listed the length of the rental agreement and the rental fee amount.
  3. The rental conditions listed follow the Japanese rental agreement laws. Nothing written in this part of the contract specifically addresses short-term rentals.
  4. Following the rental conditions as per Japanese law are special conditions concernng short-term stays at Weekly Machiya.
    1. Machiya are old buildings, and therefore the door jams and ceilings may be low in places, and the stairs are quite steep. We request guests to be careful as we cannot be held responsible for any injuries or damages.
    2. Machiya are row houses and often share walls with the neighboring houses. Iori cannot be responsible for any noises from neighboring houses and Iori reserves the right to refuse accommodation to guests who are the subject of noise complaints from neighbors.
    3. Guests are responsible for any intentional damages.
    4. Guests are not allowed to bring any pets.
    5. For fire hazard reasons, all Weekly Machiya are designated as non-smoking and any use of fire on the property is prohibited. Cooking is discouraged.
