Located on Kyoto's "Art street", this machiya offers quiet and privacy, with two peaceful inner gardens, as well as ready access to the shops and restaurants of Gion.

Among the most luxurious of the Iori restorations, the Gion Shinmonzen house is richly decorated with antique artworks, and boasts the original high open-beam ceiling and kaidan-dansu (tansu chest built into stairs). While preserving these characteristic features, we have also added radiant in-floor heating, a large cedar bath with rain shower, and handmade Shigaraki-ware bathroom sinks.
The Gion Shinbashi area (including Shinmonzen street) began in 1712 as a traditional teahouse and entertainment district. Shinmonzen street used to be lined with shops selling tea utensils, but now its shops specialize in high quality art and antiques.
The nearby cobble-stoned Shinbashi Street, which runs along the cherry tree-lined Shirakawa river, and Hanamikoji Street are both very scenic. Here you will find many traditional restaurants and teahouses. stroll through Gion and the other active geisha districts, where in the early evening apprentice maiko depart for bookings at private teahouses.
