Iori set forth in 2004 with the mission to preserve the traditional cityscape and culture of Kyoto and Japan through a new and sustainable business model.
Kyoto Machiya Stay
Iori finds and restores Kyoto's old machiya townhouses, and rents them out to visitors.
These machiya stays offer a new way to experience Kyoto for Japanese and overseas tourists alike.
Origin Arts Program
Origin is a program introducing the traditional arts of Japan (including Noh, Kyogen, calligraphy, flowers and tea ceremony) under the tutelage of leading masters of each field in Kyoto and Tokyo. Special emphasis is placed on direct physical experience of the essence of these arts.
With a 30 year history, this program is the first attempt to teach all the Japanese arts in a unified way and in a traditional context.
Utilizing the knowledge and skills gained from our experience in Kyoto, Iori assists cities and towns in various regions of Japan who wish to shape their development with a new concept based on more sustainable methods of tourism and preservation.
Practical assistance in the restoration of machiya, natural environments, and in the development of hospitality and restaurant businesses
Iori supports the restoration and efficient utilization of traditional buildings such as Machiya, Kominka (old traditional country houses), and farmhouses.
Iori also offers a hospitality/restaurant business model framework for regional business development.
Practical assistance for developing Regional Culture Experience Courses
Iori provides practical support in the development of regionally specific cultural programs utilizing local resources such as traditional trades (agriculture, forestry and fishery), traditional crafts, performing arts, food culture, and environmentally sustainable living.
